'LILY' Helping Syrian Families

During last winter Mehmet (hubby) was working on a building site in Kuşadasi, he got talking to a fellow worker İsmail who revealed he was Syrian and had escaped from Kobani with his family during the height of the fighting there. Mehmet immediately telephoned me and told me this family needed our help. They had 6 children between the ages of  14yrs and 1 yr, we put together winter clothes, shoes and a food parcel immediately and contiued to help this family ever since. On Saturday this week İsmail telephoned us to say there was now 12 Syrian Families living in Germencik (a village in Aydin) and asked if we could help them.
Mehmet and myself went along to Germencik on Sunday armed with food, water, fruit juice, blankets, a variety of clothes and shoes, plus toys and sweets for the children.
We met with the 12 families, drank tea with them and played with the children. Listened to the heartbreaking stories of their escapes..... of houses being bombed while they were sleeping, of schools being bombed, of children being injured, of loosing wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties,  children and babies, of grabbing what possesions they could only to be robbed along the way, of the horrendous journey walking for days at a time.

Although the temperatures are still high at the moment, winter will soon be upon us. We have managed to secure waterproofing for the floor of each shelter now we need some kind of covering to keep the cold out. We can supply them with plenty of blankets but they need roll up mattresses or quilts to sleep on.
They need cooking utensils, pots and pans.
There are 6 babies under the age of 6 months we need baby formula, bottles, nappies and toiletries.
we can supply baby clothes.
There are 40 children between the ages of 15yrs and 1yr we can supply winter clothes but they need coats and shoes.
They need soap, shampoo, toothpaste & tooth brushes, hair brushes & combs, sanitary towels and detergents (they have running water).
Most of they need food and drinking water, our 'friends' in Istanbul have promised to supply a LifeStraw Family water purifier for each family.

We need help with food parcels to  help ensure that each family will receive adequate nutrition for at least a month, supplying them with the staple non-perishable items that they need to cook meals for themselves. Each parcel consists of: Dates, Figs, Flour, Rice, Sugar, Butter, Oil, Pasta, Bulgur wheat, Lentils, tinned fish, tinned tomato puree, Packet Soups, Tea and Seasonings, all purchased locally here in Turkey.

With your help together we can make a difference!
